Workflows - using Images and Links

Since we are developing lots of global workflows, we want the landing dashboard designed in such a way that instead of having standard workflow buttons we use images or text links to start a Workflow.
Is there any way to do this?

Hi,

I have created an example.

You need to embed the HTML page in a dashboard using the Embedded Webpage widget (you can find the widget in the Collibra Marketplace).

The things to notice in the code are:

apiUrl: you need to have your instance + /rest/2.0/workflowInstances. This is the REST API POST method that starts a workflow in Collibra. In my example the workflow is a simple global workflow that does not need any parameters or properties to set. If you have more complex workflow to start I suggest you test through the Collibra Swagger REST API and once it works you amend the Javascript code.
X-CSRF-TOKEN. The X-CSRF-TOKEN is a security measure to prevent cross-site request forgery attacks. It is a unique token generated by the server and included in the headers of requests. When making requests like this (POST), the server expects to receive the X-CSRF-TOKEN to verify that the request is legitimate.
“workflowDefinitionId”. You need to provide the definition ID of the workflow you want to start. Once again you can use the Collibra Swagger API to GET the identifiers of the workflow you want to start.

Hi @steven.wood,
I also received the request to call workflows directly from a dashboard via link/image/custom button without using the workflow widget. In the meantime, is there any other option than the workaround you described in this post in October 2020?

There isn’t a direct way to use an image to kick off a workflow. The only workaround option would be to use HTML forms with script that can post to the workflow REST. Due to the fact that our text widgets strips HTML tags that could be used in a malicious way you would need to have an HTML page in an iFrame. The HTML page would need to be uploaded to Collibra using Backup and Restore or you could put on another web server.

Hi Steven Wood,

Can you please give some guidance on how the workflow button can be modified to a text link we already implemented the Covid dashboard template in our environments so we want to modify the workflow button as a text link can you please provide if you have a document available with you?
