Best Practices on attributes Description and Definition
Hello,
We are in process of creating data catalog and for the same we created a enterprise meta model. Two main mandatory attributes of every entity are Description and Definition. Hence, we want to create a template (structure) of how these two attributes should look like. With this, we would achieve consistency through the domains, so whenever some user goes to the catalog, he/she will find the same structure of good description/definition.
Any tips or templates that you can share that you have created/following to achieve this state?

·4 years ago · EditedGood luck with your implementation Meto! I find that from experience and for guidance, steering colleagues to use the classic phrases such as ‘"Is a…’" “Has a” and “used for” really help the user think about the definition in and facilitates the understanding of other users of your platform . If you have an architecture team and have a metamodel standard, then linking to ‘controlled’ vocabularies’ can aid standardisation - ensuring that terms, names and values are replicated by your organisational EDM. You can also refer to the ISO/IEC11179-4 standard which gives some good guidance. on metadata standards. Hope that gives you some ideas? Good luck!
