Data Access Request workflow
We are implementing a data access process with Collibra, and I’m still puzzled regarding the OOTB experience.
For us, Collibra is the enterprise data catalog, that supports a wide array of situations and teams, not for a narrow niche use case of “governing the data warehouse”.
The OOTB data access request workflow can only work when there are data elements documented on the data set, but we have data sets that do not even have data elements (e.g. unstructured data, such as electro encephalogram readings, x-ray images, etc.). As such, the OOTB workflow (and the beta catalog experience customization) seem very narrow compared to the breadth of data use cases within an enterprise.
Have anyone already developed such data access use cases?
In our case, we are looking to replicate the RBAC (role based access control) metamodel in order to provide accurate metadata during the data access process. This will enable a flexible and open data access workflow that will work for every situation, be it requesting access to data sets (structured, semi-structured, unstructured), reports, APIs, or else. I am a little worried that we may have issues in the future if Collibra further narrows down the usage of the catalog to only the data warehouse (blocking the possibility to use it for other types of data).
Any thoughts?
