Edge Vs Job Server

Question

Does anyone have a comparison documentation between Collibra Job Server and Collibra Edge? If yes, Please share it with me as required for the use case.

Hi Parvinder,

The main benefit of moving to Edge is to stay aligned with upgrades and support for the product. Jobserver is end of life in September 2024 (unless Public Sector / Gov / on prem), so that would be the biggest reason to start looking at a transition early.
Like I said, the drawbacks will largely depend on how you use jobserver today. For example, if you used Windows for Jobserver, that is a big change, since Edge only can be installed on Linux (Specifically Redhat as far as I am aware). You can also configure Jobserver to have Collibra call into Jobserver or set Jobserver to Poll Collibra for jobs, whereas Edge only ever Polls Collibra. There are lots of architecture based differences that may or may not have any impact depending on your set up.

From a harvesting point of view, Edge allows you to more easily ingest from a database, rather than the jobserver schema-by-schema approach. It also opens up further capabilities in your own environment (e.g. classification). Is there anything specific you are looking for Parvinder?
Given Jobserver is coming up to end of life next year, it is likely better to start with Edge for new installations / configurations. If you already have jobserver, it would likely be easier to list out what you have it connected to in order to see if anyone has experience to give you further tips
