Hide Asset Types
Is it possible to hide assets that are not being used from the create menu? For example we do not utilize the Looker assets and I feel like it confuses my stewards when they are able to see this option.

·5 years ago · EditedSame need as @ashley.o.donnell-rood; same error as well. Are there no alternatives to removing or hiding system asset types? For example, if no one in my organization uses Tableau, having a Tableau Data Source appear in searches and menus only adds confusion.
Is it possible to remove these system asset types using the API?

OP5 years ago · EditedThis fix will work with what I am trying to do. I am just unable to move the Looker Asset types into any domain type except BI Catalog. The Looker assets are the ones I would like removed. If I leave them in the Domain type “BI Catalog” I can create another domain that houses the assets we are currently using. Thank you!

Here’s an example that it works.
New domain type
Assign relevant asset types to the new domain
Change domain type from BI Catalog to Custom BI Catalog
You could even have multiple BI catalog domain types for each technology: power BI, Cognos, Qlik, etc.

·5 years ago · EditedOh wow, I honestly wasn’t aware of that behaviour. The domain assignment was a dirty trick I used in older Collibra versions
I think that perhaps your best bet would be to change the description of the asset type in question to flag that it isn’t used. You can style the description to be bright red or something to make it really obvious.
Doesn’t really do everything you wanted which is a bit lame but I guess would flag those specific types that aren’t used to your user base.

OP5 years ago · EditedThis is what I usually do, however with the Looker Assets I get an error "Not Authorized It’s not allowed to remove the system part of the assignment. Any ideas?

If you open the Looker asset type page and go to the global assignment tab on that page and select domain types, you can remove the domain assignment so users can’t create Looker asset in your instance and it won’t show up in the create button.
If you have multiple scopes for a given asset type, you’ll need to do this for each scope.
I also recommend making a note of what the original domain assignment was before removing it just in case you do find a use case in the future
