How can we Populate the Business Term and Definition in DQ using API and Excel ?

Hi I would like to know if it is possible to populate the Business Term and Definition in DQ using Collibra DQ API and Excel and if anyone has successfully accomplished the task and how to do it.

Yes, it is easy to import excel file in DIC, but the question was about DQ.

Collibra DQ is not the best tool by far for reflecting business context - there is not much you can do when it comes to metadata - add business unit, tags, data classification. One of the ways could be adding data classes and assigning them via API to each column. However, this is not entirely what you wanted.

From our experience, we are leveraging DIC for Business context - new DQ-DIC integration creates “DQ job asset” that represents DQ dataset and is also linked to a table/view. This way, if Business term is assigned to the column, it is possible to navigate from DQ job -> Table -> Column -> Associated Business term.

Also, I have found interesting endpoints in Collibra DQ API that might be used for that purpose (/v2/update-business-term and /v2/update-business-description in the internal API) - you can post the descriptions there, but they are only visible when you expand the column in the profiling page (nothing in the findings page or dataset/column manager page). So essentially this feature is more or less useless.

It would be great to get some comments from the Collibra DQ team.

We’ve been successsful in populating Business Term definitions using Excel. That was pretty straightforward with the export & import functions. You need to display the fields and the rows that you would like to populate, do an export, update the excel and import the file.
