how can you relate two data issues to each other?

Hi there,

I have been trying to find a way to relate two logged data issues to eachother.
Eg. short term tactical fix data issue relates to ‘long term fix’.
I have created new relationships for both issue and data issue where this relationship should work, however. In the asset page for the data issue, when I use add characteristic, and select the new relation of data issue - has long term fix - data issue. I cannot pick anything from the drop down.

Any ideas?

@hamish.morgan Please raise an ideation request for this to either be able to do this via UI or OOTB issue creation workflow to be enhanced to allow linking 2 data issues ( Possible in most applications like Jira/Zendesk -). @ann.wuyts

Strange indeed. Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I don’t currently have access to a Collibra environment to test with, so I’m trying to run through my head what could be the problem :).

As you say, there are other relationships which use issues in a relationship, so it seems really weird we can’t get it working on a new relationship. The only thing I can think of is if you have the relationship on the wrong asset type and therefore there are no assets of the type to add on the relationship. For example, if the asset you want to have is a Data Issue, make sure the relationship has a head and tail type of Data Issue, and then make sure you add the new relationship type to the Data Issue asset. When adding the issue from the Add Characteristics menu, are you searching for an issue directly in the box or just seeing what is being suggested? Perhaps it just needs a prompt for it to search properly.

Are you attempting to add the characteristic as a certain role (e.g. community manager, SME etc?) I would try as an admin and see if you can see the Issue come up. If there is a difference between the roles then it would be strange, but at least narrows down the problem (though it would be strange that you could see an issue and add a characteristic, but then not see other issues in the same place!).

I was thinking maybe scopes could be an issue, but since you were able to get a relationship in the add characteristic menu, that likely isn’t the problem.

A last ditched attempt to see if you can get the issue to come up at all is to create an Asset to Asset relationship and apply that to the data issue and search for another issue. If that doesn’t work, then it would appear nothing will, as that should theoretically give you everything possible in Collibra.

That’s all I can think of at the moment without being able to click around myself, perhaps the Collibra team can chime in on what is possible / how to get it working

Tried on both issue and data issue.

But in add characteristic, no relation of issue or data issue comes up with anything.

Must be the hidden domains, but I don’t want to mess with those. Oh well,. I guess my next step is to find how to raise DGC enhancements by Collibra.

Hi Hamish,

Did you also add these new relationships to the Issue Asset itself? Making the relationship won’t automatically add it to the assets listed in the relationship. If you have added it already to the Issue asset, then that is indeed strange that it doesn’t show up in the Add Characteristics pop up.

Tried that also. Gets all the way to the add characteristic and even selecting the new relationship, but then no data issues can be selected. must be because of the hidden domains. but weird other assets can be impacted by a data issue. even tried using that on a data issue but you still can’t select them.

Odd thing to not allow in my opinion.

The Data Issues in Collibra are part of hidden domain. Unless you go to Data Helpdesk you don’t see issues as assets in Collibra. One way to achieve this would be to update the issue creation workflow and use the relationship you mentioned to build a list so you can select the requisite issue from drop down in form

It is strange because you can select an asset is impacted by a data issue. but you cannot make a data issue related to another. I feel like this should be possible even if a hidden domain.

Oh well. might just have to use notes for now.
