Integration with BPM
I was wondering whether anyone has any experience building an integration between a BPM tool (Business Process Management) and Collibra. The main goal is to enrich the catalog with business processes and link those to physical metadata registered and maintained in Collibra. We do not yet have a specific BPM tool implemented and I would be extremely grateful to learn about any success stories!
Best wishes

·4 years ago · EditedHi, no I’m not aware of that thread. I do know that the product team is considering the ‘Integration for business processes (BPMN format) in DGC’ idea (status update from December '21 ). Maybe this is what the rep was referring to?

·4 years ago · EditedKatya, there has been some recent discussion of this in the community, but of course now I can’t find it. That discussion included a comment from a Collibra product rep that they are looking at formalizing integration of business processes. Regardless of what may be coming, it’s pretty easy to integrate business processes either from a tool , or from spreadsheets, if that’s what your process stewards are using. When looking at tools, make sure they have robust, well documented APIs. If you really get into it, you’ll want to make sure your BPM tool can link to objects in Collibra, as well.
Setting up and customizing your asset types is pretty easy. Once integrated (our folks were using Excel, not a BPM tool), we have found business processes to provide context to promote understanding of data you can’t get any other way and an important bridge for people to start thinking in terms of data, and not just process. I would urge you to consider the following to have a successful integration.
Clarity on use cases - what will people do on Collibra, versus the BPM tool?
Related asset types - do you have useful documentation that relates to process, that would be helpful for DG?
Granularity - determine the level of detail for linking process and data. What is needed on the Collibra side before jumping to the BPM tool, and vice versa.? Are you linking high level processes with business terms, subject areas, or columns? Are your data and process stewards prepared to maintain updates at a detailed level?
Synergy - what will you be able to do that you couldn’t do if process and data were managed separately?
Hope this helps.
