View Filters and Hierarchies
I am trying to create a view of Tableau assets using filters. In my domain there are Tableau Workbooks, Tableau Dashboards, and Tableau Worksheets. I would like to show a hierarchical view of Tableau Workbooks that contain Tableau Dashboards. I do not want to show the Tableau Worksheets.
I created an advanced filter with two rules:
Asset Type equals Tableau Workbook
or
Asset Type equals Tableau Dashboard
This works great for a flat view.
The hierarchical view I want to show is “Report groups Report”. In this case the hierarchy should be
– Tableau Workbooks groups
– Tableau Dashboards
– Tableau Worksheets.
Since I have a filter to exclude the Tableau Worksheets, I expect to only see
– Tableau Workbooks groups:
– Tableau Dashboards
However my filter does not exclude Tableau Worksheets in the hierarchical view. Is there any way to apply the filter to the sub-types in the hierarchy?

·4 years ago · EditedHi - picking up this old post. I also have the same requirement. I want to be able to apply filters all the way through my view so that the filter is applied at each related assets. Is there any way of doing this? via code or otherwise?

Not sure if I understand it correctly of course, but I think the Report groups Report relationship is too broad - it seems to include both the asset types Tableau Dashboard and Tableau Worksheets. In that case both asset types will show if both occur in the domain you try to build a hierarchy for.
Should you really only want to have Workbook -> Dashboard you might consider creating a separate relationship (Tableau Workbook groups/is grouped by Tableau Dashboards). In that case you can build a hierarchy that only includes Workbook and Dashboards.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Ronald
