"Translation" in multiple languages in a non-intrusive way

We often wondered how cool it would be to display metadata in the language of the stewards in their respective locale. Collibra does provide some kind of functionality here, but it is limited to the UI look and feel. The content was always displayed in the language it was captured. We have stewards across the Globe who use Collibra and they would love to see the content displayed in different languages.

I found that without changing anything in the Collibra platform configuration, we can do this easily leveraging Google Translate. Granted that this is not perfect (especially with Reference Data), but it does a decent job. I have only tried this with Chrome. Not sure if it works with any other browser. You will need to make sure you have Google Translate plugin loaded in your browser.

Hope this will be helpful for anyone having the same challenges we were having.

p.s. Sometimes you have to switch back and forth between the languages when you go to a new page.

Valid point @arthur.burkhardt. The goal is not to rely completely on it. As you said, providing a robust solution is not going to be easy or cheap. This is a quick alternative with some risk. More to understand the rich business metadata than the governance metadata. Even the legal verbiage in English can run into various interpretations based on how one views it ! So not a good idea to use the translation on contract, agreements and other legal verbiage in Collibra.

My 2 cents: it’s quite dangerous to leave legal topics up to Google translate .
And you can manage information in multiple languages by having multiple implementations (e.g. one attribute per language). But data governance is already super hard, so making it 6 times harder is probably a tall order.

Ultimately, language should be as unified as possible for the governance initiatives.
