Data Marketplace confusion by new users dues to lack of directions on the UI

Hello - We did a test and drove several hundred of our employees to the Data Marketplace as their first entry point into Collibra when promoting our Business Glossary. It did NOT go well. Normally we drop users into a Landing (Dashboard Page) with branding, instructions, helpful links, and other welcome info. Since the Marketplace is so stark and there are NO widgets to communicate what the hell to do when dropped there the test went very badly.

How do you send employees to the Marketplace as the "Business Glossary" search interface? Do you use a Dashboard first then have them navigate to the Marketplace?

Does anyone know if there will be UI improvements around what the page is for and how to use it for brand new Collibra users that only want to search for terms?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @brianlloyd , @grantrollerson1

Sorry to hear that was not a success for you. We know from other customers about this challenge, and are reviewing what we can do to improve this, and how we can effect that in a manner that to the user it's a natural evolution on the current UI. One of the areas we are exploring is giving more guidance and choice on what is searched already when starting the search in the main menu.

As it comes to configuration, our Data Office is trialing an interesting approach by introducing a 'Glossary' tab:

  1. Using the 'data marketplace scope' settings Grant mentions in his response, they have included business terms.
  2. They have then configured a 'search tab' for the Data Marketplace search with only curated business terms. (So of statuses approved, etc.) This tab is now prominently visible as 'Glossary' in the Search, and in the Homepage with featured content (beta)

As it comes to orientation and homepage: join the beta!

We are looking for feedback on the 'homepage with featured content' (beta), and what is needed for you to make this the ideal home for your users and use cases. We'll kick off a dedicated project on beta.collibra.com to make it easy to collaborate on your feedback, from small suggestions to large ideas.

If you have not done so already, please sign up to join us there.

Kind greetings,

Ann Wuyts (PM for Search and Data Marketplace)

Nice to hear, although full disclaimer here where I am we don't use Marketplace yet. Looks like it's still settling, like a nice porridge, jelly or pavlova.

I like the idea of "Glossary". You could extend it and make the search-type nameable too.... N numbers of nameable "Marketplaces". That being said, KISS is the baseline default in times of uncertainty.

Not that I'm any good at English, but I think you mean 'effect'. Happy to be corrected!

Changed to 'effect'. Either way, the intended meaning: 'how can we execute on this /achieve this so that... '. Don't let the fact that you don't use the marketplace yet stop you from joining the beta. It would be great to learn what you need on the homepage to get your users and organization there.

Run the ol "pip test" principle and have a small test group to make sure functionality is in place and working as expected 🤯 at least we learn from disasters, debacles and fiascos.

Have a look at <ACME Company>.collibra.com/settings/data-marketplace/scope/asset-types potentially you can curate the UX there.
