Joining Qlik Dimensions to Columns

We have successfully used the Qlik Sense community offering to harvest Qlik Sense metadata, however,

…There does not appear to be enough detail in the harvested Dimension Field name (fullname or name) to provide a precise match to a physical column in the data dictionary.

Does anyone have any experience with performing this join and/or building lineage (business or technical) for Qlik Sense?

Hi @graham.pearman,

The assets having type “Dimension Field” that are imported by the QlikSense to Collibra integration use the field definition as the asset’s display name (from the import) or name (from the Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud).

Meanwhile, the asset name (from the import) or the full name (from the Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud) is composed of three parts. These are:

  • The report name
  • The dimension name
  • The field definition

Therefore, can you please check whether these can be mapped/linked using the above information?
Also, it might be helpful to advise how the Column assets were imported? Thanks

Thanks for the response.

The Physical Data Dictionary information is harvested via Edge. Data is displayed in DIC as follows:

Fullname | [Connection Name]>[Database]>[Schema]>[Table]>[Column]
name | [Column]

My client’s Qlik SMEs can point me to the DBs and/or Schemas used for their Qlik Apps / Reports. However, in order to reconcile the relationships from Qlik report to physical column.

I will at least need the table.column location. Ideally however, I would be able to harvest the Database.Schema.Table.Column location used by the dimension field.

Is there any way this could be done?

Hi @graham.pearman,

Thanks for the information provided.

Currently the QlikSense integration does not support synchronising the Table and Columns and would need to be modified to do so.

Regarding this change, you can either do the code modifications from your end, otherwise, you can post a feature requests on the ideation portal (https://productresources.collibra.com/ideation-platform/) which will then be considered for our roadmap. Alternatively, you can also ask your CSM (Customer Success Manager) to push forward your feature requests internally. Thanks

Qlik Sense is the ugly duck of the Collibra integration landscape.
The best options to extract lineage are to look for technical lineage solutions such as Nodegraph (acquired by Qlik, only available in Cloud), Octopai, Manta, etc.
