KPIs and Calculated Fields Brought Into Collibra - KPI Asset or Business Term?

Are any of you storing KPIs and calculated fields within Collibra? Are you bringing them in as their own “KPI assets”, or as “business terms”? How did you make the determination between these two? What else did you consider when undergoing this effort.

Hello Aakriti, for my stakeholders, I recommend a simple rule of thumb: if it is an indicator in a dashboard built with a BI tool (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Thoughtspot, etc…), it is a measure or a KPI. If it is a field in a database, it is a business term. It may seem simplistic, but it allows them to get started.
Hope it helps, best regards

How about an indicator in the dashboard that is there in database also as a field? I mean, it is directly pulled from database to the report without any calculation happening but the calculation has already happened at database level and persisted.

Hello @noor.shaik , indeed, we also have this situation. In such a case, I recommend our contributors to create only a Measure (or KPI). The priority is to describe the reports themselves, and persons consulting Collibra expect to see indicators in a report catalog. But you may be in a different context. In any case, we try our best efforts to avoid duplicating the business assets, ie to avoid creating both a Measure and a Business Term. Hope it helps.
Best regards

Hello @aakriti.agrawal and welcome!
I really like your question. Two thoughts here about the KPI Asset type:
1 - It is a measure. So it means you have an attribute out of the box that is called “Calculation Rule” and I found it very useful.
2 - It might be also part of a Report. So in this case this is indeed better to use the KPI asset type (which has another attribute attached: “Role in Report”, which can be useful as well). Last thing, since it is a measure, this measure can be certified, and Collibra introduced another attribute for KPI or Report called “Certification achieved”.
