Temporary Provision User To Group (Licensing)

Hello All,

Given the recent changes to how licenses are provisioned I was wondering if anyone has explored the option of creating a workflow that can grant a user permissions to change assets (Author License) for a set amount of time?

My organization has many users who may only need an author license for a short period of time to validate their assets, but may not need the license permanently.

IMHO, you should try and solve it with your CSM, not technically.

Contracts are customer-specific, and this forum is clearly not the place to discuss it.
Overall, from the bits and pieces that I’ve heard, here are a few opinions:

Adding/removing licenses is technically easy, but I doubt it would change anything contractually, as most contracts will consider the number of author licenses as the number of individuals who had the license in the last 1-12 months. So even granting them an author license for 5 minutes would still count towards the yearly total.
The pricing model has been a source of debate for as long as I can remember, there are many different perspectives and I don’t think anyone has figured it out yet.
Overall, you should manage your relationship with Collibra through your CSM and find an agreement that suits your use case. I generally found Collibra to be very helpful in those discussion, making sure we could use Collibra for those edge cases.

The Collibra licensing model is faulty for this very reason - you want to encourage federating the creation of metadata but to provide author licenses at that scale (and for those who only temporarily would need it) is cost prohibitive.

I have tested workflows which grant a temporary responsibility for users to create/update metadata in the system. It is certainly possible, but I was concerned that it would violate licensing agreements and did not want to take that chance.

A floating license model would be ideal for a tool like Collibra.
