Collibra Browser Extension - Adding Whitelisted Domains

Question

I’m testing the browser extension prior to deploying to users and would like some clarity on the need or option to add whitelisted web domains in the console or in the browser settings. In the extension setting (#37) it includes a description “Domains on which the extension is allowed to run”. Yet the extension works and the context menu is available on any web page (Google, Sharepoint, etc.) regardless if it is whitelisted in the console or in the browser settings.

Is the purpose of adding domains (1) to enable the auto-matching functionality in Tableau and Power BI, (2) to enable the Collibra logo to appear on the web page, or (3) both? What other benefits are there when adding approved domains?

The purpose of whitelisting domains is both to have the logo visible on the page, in order to easily search for data, as well as enabling auto matching if you set a domain as either Tableau or Power BI.

From your question above, option 3 is the correct one.

There is no other benefits from whitelisting a domain, if a domain if not whitelisted, you can always trigger a search by selecting some content, then using right click and select “Search in Collibra”.

Whitelisting a domain is useful to help your users to be aware of the extension, as well as easily accessing it by clicking on the logo.
